Pack Your Routine With You.

How Not to Gain Weight on Vacation – Tips by The Healthy Weight Loss Coach NYC

At Eat Shed Glow™, clients learn that travel isn’t the time to abandon routines. It’s the time to carry what keeps you grounded. Feeling good on the road doesn’t come from control — it comes from staying connected to your rhythm, even when the setting changes.

You don’t need a perfect plan. You just need to protect the habits that help you feel like yourself. When you bring those with you, you don’t come home needing to recover. You come home rested, clear, and proud of how you treated yourself along the way.

Here’s how our clients stay in sync while away:

Before the Flight, Train, or Car Ride

Pack a few balanced snacks for both inbound and outbound travel. It keeps blood sugar steady, prevents impulse grabs, and sets the tone for the trip. Think protein-forward and portable — here are some of our favorite travel-friendly options.

Note: if you are the type that suffers from constipation during travel, eat before or after the plane, but avoid any foods (or alcohol) on the plane, except for water. Life changing.

Morning

  • Start the day hydrated. Add electrolytes or a squeeze of lemon to your water, especially in warmer climates or after a night of drinking. Staying ahead on hydration helps reduce cravings and stabilize energy throughout the day.

  • Keep your first meal balanced and intentional — whether it’s breakfast or lunch. A plate focused on protein, fiber, and healthy fats helps your body feel steady and your mind stay clear.

Daytime

  • Walk as much as you can — to explore, after meals, on the beach, or just to follow curiosity. Walking is the simplest, most underrated travel tool. It grounds you, clears your head, and keeps you in rhythm. Bonus: it supports a calorie deficit without spiking hunger.

  • If you enjoy more structure, most destinations make it easy to find a gym or squeeze in a quick hotel workout.

Evening

  • Save dessert for the moments that truly matter — the perfect gelato after a beach day, the local pastry you’ve been dreaming about. If it’s not worth it, skip it and end your meal with a decaf cappuccino or herbal tea.

  • Many of our clients travel with a favorite dark chocolate back at the hotel, just in case they skipped dessert and need a little something sweet (Coco is obsessed with Jojo’s peanut butter bites and won’t leave home without it). One serving, lights out, no regrets.

  • If you have trouble sleeping or your digestion is out of whack, pack our Favorite Magnesium For Sleep and Magnesium For Constipation and Irregularity)

Longer Trips

  • If you’re away for more than a few days, keep the movement that makes you feel good as part of your weekly routine. YouTube is full of free Yoga, Pilates, and Strength Classes.

  • Coco and some of her strength training obsessed clients ship dumbbells straight to their destination — hotel, rental, or a friend’s home — and use a thick towel as a mat. For under $35, it’s an easy way to keep your routine going without needing a gym.

REMINDER

The goal isn’t perfection. It’s presence. When you bring what keeps you steady, travel becomes part of your lifestyle — not a break from it. You return energized, clear, and in rhythm. Exactly how it should be.
